EYE DONATION- A GIFT OF BEAUTY, A RETURN FOR ETERNITY

Census 2011 has revealed that over 26.8 million people in India are suffering from one or the other kind of disability, out of which 5.4 million people are visually impaired, and out of these a sizeable 25-30 percent fall in the age bracket of 25-30 years.
The term ‘eye donation’ is common but there is no whole eye transplantation, most often only corneal tissue is recovered for transplantation. Corneal blindness is the loss of sight due to damage in the tissue covering the front of the eye called the cornea. A cornea that is damaged by diseases or injured is generally not suitable for donation because it can cause blurry vision. To regain the gift of sight through transplant a healthy, clear cornea is needed for good vision.
How Cornea Donation Helps?
Corneal Transplants successfully restore the vision and it also reduces the pain and improves the appearance of the unhealthy Cornea. A cornea donation can be life-saving and life- giving which will not only bring positivity to one’s life but will give them more opportunities to make their future bright and beautiful.
Who can Donate Corneal Tissues?
The Cornea can be donated irrespective of age, sex and blood group, which means that everyone is a universal donor for the corneal tissue! One should definitely donate cornea after the demise because let someone see the beauty through your eyes and let your eyes change someone’s life. It’s not less than a blessing.

After six hours of demise, eyes can be donated and the organ needs to be detached within these hours and so it is important to connect with your nearest eye bank at the earliest. World eye donation is celebrated to encourage people to donate their eyes after death and to raise awareness about visual impairment.
The gift of organ donation is the greatest gift of all. One needs to understand that government bureau and different ventures are doing their piece of work in making devices to empower the disabled community but it is our social responsibility towards humanity to support and help each other, make these communities independent and build more opportunities for them by donating eyes and let someone see through your eyes what you have seen.
There is only one way to live after your death, light up a life donate your eyes. Let us come together and be the reason for someone to see the beautiful world outside.

Let’s celebrate this day and acknowledge people about Visual impairment and donating eyes
